Domestic Cleaners Chiswick 31st March 2019
We don't often recommend specific products here, but when you receive over 12,000 five-star reviews on Amazon, we feel you deserve some kind of special mention. Introducing Smart Sheep's reusable wool dryer balls, that have recently been taking the cleaning world by storm!
Priced reasonably on their website, these medium-sized spheres are reusable balls that you can place into your tumble dryer in order to "shorten drying time, soften and fluff fabric, and reduce static". The product description also reads that "they also help bed sheets stay untangled during the drying process".
So how do they work? While in the tumble dryer, they soak up excess water and bounce around as they are spun, which naturally softens the contents. In doing so, they also improve air flow, which shortens dry time. The result is a more efficient cleaning process that means you can get your clothes nicer and spend less on energy in the process.
Smart Sheep estimates the product to last for over 1,000 loads, which generally translates to 2-4 years. They are also made from 100% premium New Zealand wool with no synthetic fibres or chemicals, will not unravel, and have a size that "is optimal for maximum dryer efficiency".
It is advised to use above three balls for a small to medium load to assist the drying of clothes, towels, sheets and blankets.
Although we are only covering it now, the product has actually been receiving positive reviews since late 2014 when it launched. Here are a few snippets from comments from the Amazon page:
"I love these dryer balls. No more chemical softeners. I am happy with the product. I always used dryer sheets- so I was surprised to discover that static is not a problem. The balls are not as noisy as I feared and my clothes dry quicker."
"I would not say they are better than dryer sheets at removing static, but I'm impressed that they cut my drying time on towels from 180 mins to 80 minutes."
